Description

Deliciously golden and crispy on the outside, with gooey cheese and savory fillings on the inside—these Air Fryer Calzones are a fast and fun twist on classic pizza, ready in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)

1/2 cup pizza sauce

1 to 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Assorted fillings: pepperoni, cooked sausage, sautéed vegetables, ricotta cheese, etc.

Olive oil or cooking spray (for air fryer basket)

Optional: Garlic butter, grated Parmesan, Italian seasoning (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Divide the pizza dough into 4–8 pieces, depending on your desired calzone size.
  2. Roll each piece into a 6–9 inch circle on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Spread pizza sauce over half of each circle, leaving a 1-inch border.
  4. Add mozzarella cheese and your desired fillings over the sauce.
  5. Fold the dough over into a half-moon shape and crimp the edges with a fork or your fingers to seal.
  6. Preheat the air fryer to 370–400 °F (190–200 °C) and lightly spray the basket or parchment paper with cooking spray or olive oil.
  7. Place calzones in the air fryer in batches and cook for 7–12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown.
  8. Optional: After flipping, brush tops with garlic butter and sprinkle with Parmesan or Italian seasoning.
  9. Let the calzones cool for 3–5 minutes before serving. Serve with extra pizza sauce for dipping.

Notes

  1. Precook any meat or water-rich vegetables (like mushrooms or zucchini) to prevent soggy filling.
  2. Don’t overfill calzones to avoid leaks—1 to 1 1/2 cups of filling per 6-inch calzone is ideal.
  3. Use parchment paper rated for 400 °F and remove halfway for crispier bottoms.
  4. To make a quick homemade dough, mix 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour with 1 cup Greek yogurt.
  5. Let cooked calzones cool before storing to avoid condensation.
