Ingredients
- 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 cup Italian-style seasoned breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Cooking spray or oil for air fryer
- Optional: marinara sauce for dipping
Instructions
- Cut each mozzarella stick into thirds to make bite-sized pieces.
- Place the flour in a shallow bowl.
- In a second bowl, whisk the eggs with water until well combined.
- In a third bowl, mix breadcrumbs with Parmesan cheese.
- Coat each mozzarella piece in flour, then dip into the egg mixture, and then coat in the breadcrumb mixture.
- Repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating one more time for each piece (double breading helps keep the cheese inside when cooking).
- Place the coated mozzarella bites on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
- Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or lightly oil it to prevent sticking.
- Place the frozen mozzarella bites in the basket in a single layer without overcrowding.
- Air fry for 5 to 7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Watch closely to avoid over-melting.
- Serve immediately with marinara sauce or your favorite dip.
