Description
This Air Fryer Teriyaki Chicken is a flavorful and healthy dish that’s easy to prepare. Juicy chicken pieces are marinated in a homemade teriyaki sauce and air fried to perfection, making it a great option for a quick weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- 500 gm chicken thighs or breasts (boneless, cut into bite-sized pieces)
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (for garnish)
- 2 spring onions chopped (for garnish)
- 1 tbsp cornflour (optional, for thickening sauce)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 1 tbsp honey (or brown sugar)
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp ginger (grated)
- 1 tsp garlic (minced)
- 1/4 tsp pepper
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, and pepper to make the teriyaki marinade.
- Marinate the chicken pieces in the sauce for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the air fryer at 180°C (356°F) for 5 minutes.
- Place the marinated chicken pieces in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
- Air fry at 180°C (356°F) for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through until cooked and slightly charred.
- While the chicken is cooking, pour the leftover marinade into a pan and bring it to a boil.
- Optional: Mix 1 tbsp cornflour with 2 tbsp water and add to the sauce to thicken it.
- Once the chicken is done, toss it in the thickened sauce to coat evenly.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped spring onions before serving.
Notes
- You can use chicken breast or thighs, but thighs stay juicier.
- Adjust sweetness and saltiness of the marinade to your taste.
- Always boil leftover marinade before using it as a sauce.
- Serve with steamed rice or stir-fried veggies for a complete meal.
