Description

Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a hearty comfort food casserole made with seasoned ground beef, creamy mashed potatoes, and melted cheddar cheese, baked together until hot and bubbly.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes, prepared
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with the diced onion until the meat is fully browned and the onion is tender. Drain excess grease. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes with milk, melted butter, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  3. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  4. Spread half of the mashed potatoes evenly in the bottom of the dish. Layer the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with half of the cheddar cheese.
  5. Top with the remaining mashed potatoes and finish with the rest of the cheese.
  6. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until heated through and cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Add vegetables such as peas, corn, carrots, or green beans to the beef layer for extra flavor and texture.
  • Substitute ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • Mix sour cream or cream cheese into the mashed potatoes for added richness.
  • Ensure ground beef is well-drained to prevent excess moisture.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Freeze tightly wrapped for up to 2 months and thaw overnight before reheating.
