Description

This classic apple crisp recipe features tender, cinnamon-spiced apples topped with a buttery oat crumble. It’s a warm, comforting dessert perfect for fall or anytime you have extra apples on hand.

Ingredients

  • 6 to 8 apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter (cut into small pieces)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss well to coat the apples evenly.
  3. Transfer the apple mixture to a greased 8-inch square baking dish and spread evenly.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, salt, rolled oats, and brown sugar.
  5. Add the cold butter pieces to the dry ingredients and cut in using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbling.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
