Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups peeled and diced apples (about 1–2 apples)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease it lightly.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add in eggs and vanilla extract; beat until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in the diced apples until evenly distributed.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- In a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup sugar with 1 tablespoon cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the batter.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
