Description

Frikadellen are traditional German meat patties made from ground meat, onions, breadcrumbs, and spices. They’re pan-fried until golden and perfect for serving with potatoes, salads, or on a bun like a burger.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef or a mix of beef and pork
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 2 slices of white bread (soaked in water or milk, then squeezed out)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp German or Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 12 tbsp oil or butter for frying

Instructions

  1. Soak the bread slices in water or milk until soft, then squeeze out the excess liquid.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, chopped onion, egg, soaked bread, parsley, mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
  4. Shape the mixture into patties, about the size of a hamburger but thicker.
  5. Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  6. Fry the Frikadellen on each side for about 5–7 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite side dish like potato salad or mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a dash of Worcestershire sauce or garlic to the mixture.
  • Frikadellen can be served hot or cold, making them great for picnics.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
