Description
A classic Italian panna cotta dessert made with cream, sugar, vanilla, and gelatin, creating a smooth, silky custard that is lightly sweet and perfect served with fresh berries or fruit sauce.
Ingredients
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin powder
- 3 tablespoons cold water
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Fresh berries or fruit sauce for serving (optional)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the cold water and let it bloom for 5–10 minutes.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the heavy cream, milk, sugar, and salt. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the bloomed gelatin until completely dissolved.
- Add the vanilla extract and mix well.
- Pour the mixture evenly into serving glasses or ramekins.
- Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until fully set.
- Serve chilled, topped with fresh berries or fruit sauce if desired.
Notes
- Do not let the cream mixture boil, as it may affect the texture.
- For easy unmolding, lightly grease the ramekins before pouring the mixture.
- Panna cotta can be made up to 2 days in advance and kept refrigerated.
- Customize the flavor by adding citrus zest, coffee, or almond extract.
