Description
This classic Italian Tiramisu is a rich and creamy no-bake dessert made with layers of espresso-soaked ladyfingers and a smooth mascarpone mixture, dusted with cocoa powder.
Ingredients
- 6 large egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 pound (16 oz) mascarpone cheese, room temperature
- 2 cups strong brewed coffee or espresso, cooled to room temperature
- 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
- 1 package (7 oz) ladyfinger biscuits (savoiardi)
- Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
- Grated chocolate or chocolate shavings (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- In a heatproof bowl over simmering water, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until the mixture is thickened and pale. Let it cool slightly.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- In another bowl, beat the mascarpone until smooth, then fold in the cooled egg yolk mixture until well combined.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until smooth and fluffy.
- In a shallow dish, combine the cooled coffee and coffee liqueur (if using).
- Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture and arrange a layer in the bottom of a 9×13 inch dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers and smooth the top.
- Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
- Dust with cocoa powder and garnish with grated chocolate before serving.
Notes
- Ensure ladyfingers are dipped quickly to avoid becoming soggy.
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the coffee liqueur.
- Chill overnight for best flavor and texture.
- Use high-quality espresso for an authentic taste.
