Description

This classic Italian Tiramisu is a rich and creamy no-bake dessert made with layers of espresso-soaked ladyfingers and a smooth mascarpone mixture, dusted with cocoa powder.

Ingredients

  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 pound (16 oz) mascarpone cheese, room temperature
  • 2 cups strong brewed coffee or espresso, cooled to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 1 package (7 oz) ladyfinger biscuits (savoiardi)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
  • Grated chocolate or chocolate shavings (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a heatproof bowl over simmering water, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until the mixture is thickened and pale. Let it cool slightly.
  2. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  3. In another bowl, beat the mascarpone until smooth, then fold in the cooled egg yolk mixture until well combined.
  4. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until smooth and fluffy.
  5. In a shallow dish, combine the cooled coffee and coffee liqueur (if using).
  6. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture and arrange a layer in the bottom of a 9×13 inch dish.
  7. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers and smooth the top.
  8. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  9. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  10. Dust with cocoa powder and garnish with grated chocolate before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure ladyfingers are dipped quickly to avoid becoming soggy.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit the coffee liqueur.
  • Chill overnight for best flavor and texture.
  • Use high-quality espresso for an authentic taste.
