Description
This classic Italian tiramisu is a no-bake dessert made of layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and rich mascarpone cream, finished with a dusting of cocoa powder. It’s creamy, flavorful, and perfect for special occasions or as a make-ahead treat.
Ingredients
- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 16 oz (450 g) mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 1/2 cups strong brewed coffee or espresso, cooled
- 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)
- 24–30 ladyfingers (savoiardi)
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
Instructions
- Whisk the egg yolks and sugar together until pale and creamy.
- Add the mascarpone cheese and mix until smooth and fully incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until smooth and airy.
- In a shallow dish, combine the cooled coffee or espresso with the coffee liqueur (if using).
- Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to over-soak.
- Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a serving dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture evenly over the ladyfingers.
- Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers on top.
- Spread the remaining mascarpone mixture over the second layer.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, until set.
- Before serving, dust generously with unsweetened cocoa powder, slice, and serve.
Notes
- Chill for at least 4 hours for best texture; overnight chilling enhances flavor.
- Do not soak ladyfingers too long to prevent sogginess.
- Coffee liqueur can be omitted for an alcohol-free version.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Freeze tightly wrapped portions for longer storage and thaw in the refrigerator before serving.
