Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 2 cups grated cheese (such as mozzarella, cheddar, or a combination)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Flatten each piece slightly, place a tablespoon of grated cheese in the center, and fold the dough around it to form a bun.
- Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the tops of the buns with a bit of milk or beaten egg for a nice golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown and the cheese is oozing out.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving to enjoy them at their melty best.
