Description

These baked cinnamon sugar donuts are soft, fluffy, and coated in a delightful cinnamon-sugar mixture. Made without frying, they offer a healthier twist on a classic treat, perfect for breakfast or a sweet snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup (67g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup (60g) plain yogurt or sour cream, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1.5 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • For Topping: 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons (45g) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a donut pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the egg and sugar until combined. Add milk, yogurt, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Spoon or pipe the batter evenly into the donut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.
  6. Bake for 9–10 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned and a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and let donuts cool for 2 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack.
  8. Mix the topping sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Dip each slightly warm donut in melted butter, then coat in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
