Description
This easy and quick pan-seared tilapia recipe results in perfectly golden fillets with a flavorful seasoning blend, ideal for a weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- 4 (4 to 6-ounce) tilapia fillets
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
- Pat the tilapia fillets dry with paper towels.
- In a small bowl, mix together the salt, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using).
- Sprinkle the seasoning mixture evenly over both sides of the tilapia fillets.
- Lightly dredge each fillet in flour, shaking off any excess.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large nonstick or cast iron skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add 2 fillets and cook until golden-brown and cooked through, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate and repeat with the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil and 2 fillets.
- Once all fillets are cooked, reduce heat to low and add the butter to the skillet. Let it melt, then drizzle over the fish.
- Serve the tilapia warm with lemon wedges.
Notes
- Make sure tilapia is completely dry before seasoning and flouring to ensure a crisp crust.
- Tilapia can be substituted with another white fish like cod or haddock.
- Use a fish spatula for easier flipping without breaking the fillets.
