Description

Banana Bread Brownies are a delicious cross between moist banana bread and rich brownies, topped with a smooth brown butter frosting for extra flavor.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups ripe bananas (about 3-4), mashed
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup butter (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 3 tbsp milk (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, beat together sugar, sour cream, butter, and eggs until creamy.
  3. Mix in mashed bananas and vanilla extract.
  4. Add flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix until just combined.
  5. Stir in chopped walnuts if using.
  6. Spread batter evenly in the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool slightly.
  7. To make the frosting, heat butter in a saucepan over medium heat until boiling. Let the butter turn a delicate brown, then remove from heat.
  8. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk to the browned butter and mix until smooth. Adjust milk for desired consistency.
  9. Spread frosting over warm banana brownies and let set before cutting.
