Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 1 3/4 cups ripe bananas (about 3-4), mashed
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- 1/2 cup butter (for frosting)
- 4 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 3 tbsp milk (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, beat together sugar, sour cream, butter, and eggs until creamy.
- Mix in mashed bananas and vanilla extract.
- Add flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix until just combined.
- Stir in chopped walnuts if using.
- Spread batter evenly in the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool slightly.
- To make the frosting, heat butter in a saucepan over medium heat until boiling. Let the butter turn a delicate brown, then remove from heat.
- Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk to the browned butter and mix until smooth. Adjust milk for desired consistency.
- Spread frosting over warm banana brownies and let set before cutting.
Notes
- Use ripe bananas for best flavor and moisture.
- Let the frosting set slightly before cutting for cleaner slices.
- Chopped walnuts add a nice crunch but are optional.
