Description

This Berry French Toast Casserole is a delicious and easy make-ahead breakfast or brunch dish featuring fluffy bread soaked in a sweet custard, layered with fresh berries, and baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread (1416 oz), cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 cups mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries)
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar (optional, for topping)
  • Butter or nonstick spray for greasing

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. Spread half of the bread cubes evenly into the prepared dish, then sprinkle with half of the berries. Repeat with remaining bread and berries.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and berries in the dish. Press down gently to soak all the bread.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight for best results.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove casserole from refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature while the oven heats.
  7. Bake uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until golden brown and the center is set.
  8. Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

  • Make sure bread is slightly stale or toast it beforehand to avoid sogginess.
  • This casserole can be assembled the night before and baked in the morning.
  • Serve with maple syrup, whipped cream, or yogurt for added flavor.
