Description
A quick and flavorful vegan gravy made with just five simple ingredients, perfect for mashed potatoes and hearty dishes. Smooth, savory, and ready in minutes.
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp vegan butter (or unflavoured oil)
- 1½ tsp onion powder
- 2 tbsp soy sauce or tamari (gluten free if needed)
- ¼ cup flour (gluten free if needed)
- 3 cups vegetable broth/stock
Instructions
- Melt vegan butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat.
- Add onion powder, soy sauce, and flour. Stir to form a smooth paste.
- Gradually add vegetable broth about ¼ cup at a time, stirring well between each addition to prevent lumps.
- Once all liquid is added, increase heat until the mixture begins to bubble. Reduce slightly and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Add a splash of water if it becomes too thick.
- Serve warm with mashed potatoes, sausages, or your favorite vegetable side dish.
Notes
- Use tamari for a gluten-free option.
- Whisk continuously when adding broth to avoid lumps.
- Adjust thickness by adding more broth or water as needed.
- Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat gently.
- Add black pepper or garlic powder for extra flavor if desired.
