Description
This classic apple crisp is made with tender spiced apples and a buttery oat topping. It’s the perfect comforting dessert for fall and is best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
- 6 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples (such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a combination)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, flour, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Stir until apples are well coated.
- Transfer the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread into an even layer.
- In a separate bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the softened butter and use a fork or your hands to mix until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.
Notes
- Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor.
- The crisp can be made ahead and reheated before serving.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- You can double the recipe and bake it in a 9×13 inch dish.
