Description

This Big Mac Tater Tot Casserole combines all the classic burger flavors with crispy tater tots and melty cheese for a fun and comforting family dinner. It is hearty, cheesy, and packed with savory goodness in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 (16 oz) bag frozen tater tots
  • 1/4 cup ketchup (plus 1 tablespoon for sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons mustard (plus 1 teaspoon for sauce)
  • 1/4 cup pickle relish (divided)
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar (divided)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until soft and translucent.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  4. Stir in 1/4 cup ketchup, 2 tablespoons mustard, half of the pickle relish, and half of the vinegar. Remove from heat.
  5. Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray and spread the frozen tater tots evenly over the bottom.
  6. Pour the beef mixture over the tater tots and spread evenly.
  7. Sprinkle shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the tater tots are golden brown.
  9. In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, remaining ketchup, remaining mustard, remaining pickle relish, and remaining vinegar to make the sauce.
  10. Drizzle the sauce over the casserole before serving. Serve warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • Add shredded lettuce and diced pickles on top after baking for an authentic burger-style finish.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in the oven to maintain crispy tater tots.
