Description

A creamy, comforting, and easy-to-make tuna noodle casserole made with simple ingredients like pasta, tuna, peas, and a crunchy topping. A family favorite and classic dish perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz wide egg noodles
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 10.5 oz can cream of mushroom soup
  • 10.5 oz can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups frozen peas
  • 3 (5 oz) cans tuna, drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups crushed Ritz crackers
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Cook egg noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3–4 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  4. In a large bowl, mix together the cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, milk, peas, tuna, salt, pepper, sautéed onions and garlic, and 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. Add the cooked noodles to the mixture and stir until fully combined.
  6. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheese on top.
  7. In a small bowl, mix crushed Ritz crackers with melted butter and sprinkle over the casserole.
  8. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes or until bubbly and the top is golden brown.
  9. Let cool for 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream for a lighter version.
  • Use canned chicken instead of tuna if preferred.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers for more vegetables.
  • Can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before baking.
  • Leftovers store well in the fridge for 3–4 days and reheat easily in the microwave or oven.
