Description

Soft, fluffy homemade cinnamon rolls filled with a rich cinnamon-sugar swirl and topped with creamy frosting. Perfect for breakfast or a comforting dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 package yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus up to 1/2 cup more as needed)
  • 6 tablespoons butter (diced and softened)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 stick butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup cream cheese
  • 1 cup icing sugar (or more to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk to about 100°F (not exceeding 105°F).
  2. In a small bowl, combine yeast with 1 tablespoon warm milk and 1 teaspoon sugar. Stir and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. In a stand mixer bowl, add flour, butter, salt, eggs, yeast mixture, remaining milk, and sugar. Mix briefly to combine.
  4. Knead with a dough hook on medium speed until a smooth dough forms, about 10–12 minutes. Add flour 1 tablespoon at a time if needed.
  5. Transfer dough to a greased bowl, shape into a ball, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled.
  6. Turn dough onto a floured surface, punch down, and roll into an 18×12-inch rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Spread softened butter over the dough. Mix brown sugar, white sugar, and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the butter.
  8. Roll dough tightly into a log from the long side and pinch the seam to seal. Slice into 12 rolls.
  9. Place rolls in a greased 9×13-inch pan, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes until puffy.
  10. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake rolls for about 18 minutes until lightly golden. Cover with foil if needed and bake longer if centers are underdone.
  11. In a bowl, beat cream cheese, icing sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
  12. Let rolls cool for 5 minutes after baking, then spread frosting over warm rolls.
  13. Cool slightly and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use dental floss or thread to slice rolls cleanly without squishing.
  • If the room is cool, allow extra rising time for best texture.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
  • Reheat briefly before serving for a soft, fresh taste.
