Description
Soft, fluffy homemade cinnamon rolls filled with a rich cinnamon-sugar swirl and topped with creamy frosting. Perfect for breakfast or a comforting dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 package yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus up to 1/2 cup more as needed)
- 6 tablespoons butter (diced and softened)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 stick butter (softened)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 3/4 cup cream cheese
- 1 cup icing sugar (or more to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- pinch salt
Instructions
- Warm the milk to about 100°F (not exceeding 105°F).
- In a small bowl, combine yeast with 1 tablespoon warm milk and 1 teaspoon sugar. Stir and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a stand mixer bowl, add flour, butter, salt, eggs, yeast mixture, remaining milk, and sugar. Mix briefly to combine.
- Knead with a dough hook on medium speed until a smooth dough forms, about 10–12 minutes. Add flour 1 tablespoon at a time if needed.
- Transfer dough to a greased bowl, shape into a ball, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface, punch down, and roll into an 18×12-inch rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread softened butter over the dough. Mix brown sugar, white sugar, and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the butter.
- Roll dough tightly into a log from the long side and pinch the seam to seal. Slice into 12 rolls.
- Place rolls in a greased 9×13-inch pan, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat oven to 350°F and bake rolls for about 18 minutes until lightly golden. Cover with foil if needed and bake longer if centers are underdone.
- In a bowl, beat cream cheese, icing sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
- Let rolls cool for 5 minutes after baking, then spread frosting over warm rolls.
- Cool slightly and serve warm.
Notes
- Use dental floss or thread to slice rolls cleanly without squishing.
- If the room is cool, allow extra rising time for best texture.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
- Reheat briefly before serving for a soft, fresh taste.
