Description

A delicious twist on two classics, these Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes combine seasoned ground beef, sautéed veggies, and melty provolone cheese, all served on toasted brioche buns for a quick and hearty meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 8 ounces brown mushrooms, minced
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon Kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 8 ounces Provolone Cheese Slices, chopped
  • 6 brioche hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. In a large cast iron skillet, add the ground beef and brown it until a deep brown crust appears before breaking the beef apart.
  2. Stir the ground beef occasionally and continue browning until a deep crust appears on about 50% of the beef.
  3. Remove the beef from the skillet and add the butter, onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms.
  4. Let the vegetables brown for 1-2 minutes before stirring, then brown for another 1-2 minutes before stirring again.
  5. Add the browned beef back into the pan.
  6. In a small cup, mix the beef broth and cornstarch together.
  7. Add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and beef broth/cornstarch mixture into the pan.
  8. Cook until the mixture is only slightly liquidy, about 3-5 minutes.
  9. Turn off the heat and stir in the chopped provolone cheese until melted.
  10. Serve on toasted brioche hamburger buns.

Notes

  • Use 6 ounces of cheese if you prefer it less cheesy.
  • Toasting the buns adds extra texture and prevents sogginess.
  • Great for meal prep—just store the meat mixture separately from the buns.
