Description
These easy Spinach Puffs are a crowd-pleasing appetizer made with puff pastry, creamy spinach filling, and savory cheese. Perfect for parties or holiday gatherings, they are flaky, cheesy, and irresistibly delicious.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 small yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 5 ounces fresh baby spinach
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté until soft, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add the spinach and cook until wilted. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Then, transfer to a cutting board and chop finely.
- In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, Parmesan, salt, pepper, and chopped spinach mixture. Stir until well combined.
- On a lightly floured surface, unfold the puff pastry sheet and roll it out slightly. Cut into 9 equal squares.
- Place a spoonful of the spinach mixture in the center of each square.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to make an egg wash. Brush the edges of the pastry squares with egg wash.
- Fold each square into a triangle or rectangle, pressing the edges to seal. Place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with more egg wash.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown and puffed. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- You can prepare the filling ahead of time and refrigerate until ready to use.
- These puffs can be frozen after baking and reheated in the oven.
- Make sure the puff pastry is fully thawed before using for best results.
