Description
A rich, creamy, and smooth ultimate cheese sauce perfect for drizzling over crispy fries. Made with real cheddar cheese and simple pantry ingredients, this sauce is quick to prepare and delivers bold, comforting flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk (warm)
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until lightly golden to form a roux.
- Slowly pour in the warm milk while whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
- Cook and stir until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
- Reduce heat to low and gradually add the shredded cheddar cheese, stirring until fully melted and smooth.
- Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, paprika (if using), salt, and pepper.
- Remove from heat and serve immediately over hot fries.
Notes
- Use freshly shredded cheese for the smoothest texture.
- If the sauce becomes too thick, add a tablespoon of warm milk at a time to thin it.
- For extra flavor, add a splash of hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper.
- This sauce is best served fresh but can be reheated gently on the stovetop.
