Description
This Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast Casserole is a comforting and satisfying way to start your day. Packed with buttery biscuits, savory sausage gravy, and plenty of cheese, this casserole is perfect for family gatherings or holiday mornings.
Ingredients
1 can of refrigerated biscuit dough (8 count)
1 pound breakfast sausage
2 cups milk
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 large eggs
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside.
 - In a skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned, breaking it apart into small crumbles as it cooks. Drain any excess grease.
 - Add the flour to the cooked sausage and stir for about 1 minute to make a roux.
 - Slowly pour in the milk, whisking constantly to ensure the mixture is smooth. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 3-4 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
 - Cut the refrigerated biscuits into quarters and layer them in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
 - Pour the sausage gravy evenly over the biscuits.
 - In a bowl, whisk together the eggs and heavy cream, then pour this mixture over the casserole.
 - Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top, then bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the biscuits are cooked through.
 - Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with paprika if desired.

Notes

 - Spicy: Add some crushed red pepper flakes or hot sauce to the sausage gravy for a spicy kick.
 - Cheese: Swap the cheddar cheese for your favorite variety like mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or even pepper jack for more flavor.
 - Add Veggies: Incorporate vegetables like sautéed onions, bell peppers, or spinach into the sausage gravy for extra flavor and nutrients.
 - Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
 - Reheating: Reheat individual portions in the microwave for 30-60 seconds or bake the entire casserole at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes.
