Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it. Set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, evaporated milk, butter, and salt.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium-low and continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture reaches the soft-ball stage (about 234°F to 240°F on a candy thermometer).
  5. Remove from heat and let it cool for 5 minutes without stirring.
  6. Add the vanilla extract and beat the mixture vigorously with a wooden spoon until it thickens and starts to lose its gloss (this may take several minutes).
  7. Quickly pour the fudge into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  8. Let it cool completely at room temperature, then cut into squares and serve.
