Description

These Cheese and Pesto Twists are a deliciously easy and impressive snack or appetizer made with puff pastry, cheese, and pesto, perfect for parties or casual gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 2 sheets of pre-rolled puff pastry, defrosted
  • 4 tablespoons basil pesto
  • 1 cup grated cheese (cheddar or a cheese blend)
  • 1 egg, whisked (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F) fan bake and line two baking trays with baking paper.
  2. Lay out one sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Spread 2 tablespoons of pesto evenly over the pastry.
  4. Sprinkle half of the grated cheese evenly over the pesto.
  5. Place the second sheet of pastry over the top to sandwich the filling.
  6. Press down gently and cut into strips approximately 2 cm wide.
  7. Twist each strip several times and place onto the prepared baking trays.
  8. Brush each twist with the whisked egg for a golden finish.
  9. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • You can use different types of pesto such as sun-dried tomato or spinach pesto.
  • These are best enjoyed on the day they are made but can be reheated in the oven.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days.
