Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line an 8×8-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter. Remove from heat and stir in sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
  3. Beat in cocoa, flour, baking powder, and salt until fully combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  5. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Let cool completely.
  6. For the frosting, beat the cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
  7. Add powdered sugar and vanilla and beat until fluffy and smooth.
  8. Spread the cream cheese frosting over the cooled brownies.
  9. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to set the frosting before slicing and serving.
