Description

Churro Apple Pie Bowls combine the crispy, cinnamon-sugar goodness of churros with the sweet, spiced comfort of apple pie. These edible bowls are shaped from churro dough, baked or fried, and filled with warm apple pie filling—perfect for parties or cozy treats.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • 2 cups apple pie filling (homemade or store-bought)
  • Cooking spray or oil for frying
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, bring water, butter, 2 tbsp sugar, and salt to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat and stir in flour until a dough forms. Let cool slightly.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing until smooth and well incorporated.
  4. Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  5. Invert a muffin tin and spray the bottoms with cooking spray.
  6. Pipe churro dough in circular motions around each inverted muffin cup to form bowl shapes.
  7. Freeze the tray for 30 minutes to help the bowls hold their shape.
  8. Fry the churro bowls in 350°F oil until golden brown or bake at 375°F until crisp and golden, about 15–20 minutes.
  9. Immediately roll hot bowls in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.
  10. Warm apple pie filling and spoon into each churro bowl.
  11. Top with optional whipped cream, caramel drizzle, or vanilla ice cream, if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Freezing the shaped dough helps maintain the bowl shape during cooking.
  • Baking is a great alternative to frying for a lighter version.
  • Use a mini muffin tin for smaller, bite-sized bowls.
  • Store unfilled bowls in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • To re-crisp, reheat bowls in the oven at 350°F for 5–7 minutes.
