Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for cinnamon topping)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 23 tablespoons milk (for frosting)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and smooth.
  3. Add the eggs, sour cream, and vanilla extract; mix until fully combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  6. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  7. In a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon and sprinkle evenly over the batter.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before frosting.
  10. To make the frosting, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and spread evenly over the cooled bars. Let set before slicing.
