Description

This classic bruschetta recipe is the perfect Italian appetizer, made with toasted bread rubbed with garlic and topped with a fresh tomato-basil mixture. Quick, simple, and bursting with flavor, it’s an ideal starter for any occasion!

Ingredients

  • 1 baguette, sliced into ½-inch thick pieces

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (plus more for brushing)

  • 2 garlic cloves (1 halved for rubbing, 1 minced)

  • 4 ripe Roma tomatoes, diced

  • ¼ cup fresh basil leaves, chopped

  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

  • Brush baguette slices with olive oil on both sides and place on a baking sheet.

  • Toast in the oven for 7–9 minutes, or until golden and crisp.

  • Rub each toast with the cut side of a halved garlic clove while still warm.

  • In a bowl, combine diced tomatoes, minced garlic, chopped basil, olive oil, and optional balsamic vinegar. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Spoon the tomato mixture generously over the toasted bread.

  • Serve immediately as a fresh and flavorful appetizer.

Notes

  • Use the freshest tomatoes you can find for the best flavor.

  • For a more intense flavor, let the tomato mixture sit for 15–30 minutes before topping the toast.

  • Add a sprinkle of shredded Parmesan or mozzarella for a cheesy twist.

  • Make it gluten-free by using gluten-free bread slices.
