Description

This Southern-style Crab Boil is a flavorful and fun seafood feast packed with crab legs, shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes all boiled in a seasoned broth. Perfect for summer gatherings or festive dinners.

Ingredients

  • 4 quarts water
  • 1 (3-ounce) bag of crab boil seasoning (such as Zatarain’s)
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 4 tablespoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 lemon, quartered
  • 1 large onion, peeled and quartered
  • 1 head garlic, halved horizontally
  • 8 small red potatoes
  • 4 ears of corn, husked and halved
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 2 pounds king crab legs
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • Butter and additional Old Bay seasoning for serving

Instructions

  1. Fill a large stockpot with 4 quarts of water and bring to a boil.
  2. Add crab boil seasoning, salt, Old Bay seasoning, lemon, onion, and garlic. Let simmer for 10 minutes to infuse the broth.
  3. Add potatoes and cook for 10 minutes until they begin to soften.
  4. Add corn and sausage to the pot. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes.
  5. Add crab legs and cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Add shrimp and cook until they are pink and opaque, about 3-4 minutes.
  7. Drain the boil and pour the contents onto a large table covered with newspaper or parchment paper.
  8. Serve immediately with melted butter and extra Old Bay seasoning.

Notes

  • You can customize the seafood based on availability—lobster, clams, or mussels can be added.
  • Use a large outdoor burner or propane cooker for large gatherings.
  • Adjust spice levels by adding hot sauce or cayenne pepper to the boil.
