Description
A moist and tender banana bread layered with a sweet cream cheese filling. This comforting loaf combines ripe bananas with a rich cheesecake-style center for a delicious homemade treat.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup melted butter (plus more butter for pan)
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 3 ripe bananas (mashed)
- 6 ounces cream cheese (softened)
- 1 large egg
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter or spray a 9×5-inch loaf pan and set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In another large bowl, mix together 1 cup sugar, melted butter, sour cream, vanilla extract, and 2 eggs until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the mashed bananas.
- In a small bowl, prepare the cream cheese filling by mixing the softened cream cheese, egg, sugar, and flour until smooth.
- Pour half of the banana batter into the prepared loaf pan.
- Dollop the cream cheese filling over the batter and gently spread it into an even layer.
- Top with the remaining banana batter.
- Bake for about 1 hour, or until the loaf is golden and a toothpick inserted into the bread portion comes out clean.
- Allow the bread to cool for 5–10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use very ripe bananas for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
- If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil during the last 15 minutes of baking.
- Store leftover banana bread in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- This bread can also be frozen for up to 2 months; thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.
