Description

A moist and tender banana bread layered with a sweet cream cheese filling. This comforting loaf combines ripe bananas with a rich cheesecake-style center for a delicious homemade treat.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup melted butter (plus more butter for pan)
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 ripe bananas (mashed)
  • 6 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter or spray a 9×5-inch loaf pan and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another large bowl, mix together 1 cup sugar, melted butter, sour cream, vanilla extract, and 2 eggs until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the mashed bananas.
  5. In a small bowl, prepare the cream cheese filling by mixing the softened cream cheese, egg, sugar, and flour until smooth.
  6. Pour half of the banana batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  7. Dollop the cream cheese filling over the batter and gently spread it into an even layer.
  8. Top with the remaining banana batter.
  9. Bake for about 1 hour, or until the loaf is golden and a toothpick inserted into the bread portion comes out clean.
  10. Allow the bread to cool for 5–10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
  • If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil during the last 15 minutes of baking.
  • Store leftover banana bread in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • This bread can also be frozen for up to 2 months; thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.
