Description
Creamy Garlic Parmesan Orzo is a rich and comforting side dish made with tender orzo pasta simmered in garlic, broth, and cream, then finished with freshly grated Parmesan cheese for a silky, flavorful finish.
Ingredients
- 1 cup orzo pasta
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir in the orzo and toast lightly for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Pour in the broth and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the orzo is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed, about 10 to 12 minutes.
- Stir in the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese until creamy and well combined.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.
Notes
- Stir frequently to prevent the orzo from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
- Use freshly grated Parmesan for the best flavor and smooth texture.
- Vegetable broth can be used to keep the dish fully vegetarian.
- Add cooked chicken or shrimp to turn this side dish into a main course.
