These crispy cabbage dumplings are a flavorful and satisfying vegetarian dish with a crunchy pan-fried wrapper and a savory, spiced cabbage filling.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger
- 3 cups cabbage, finely shredded
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 pack of dumpling wrappers
- Water for sealing dumplings
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Heat sesame oil and vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and ginger; sauté until fragrant.
- Add shredded cabbage and green onions; cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and cornstarch; cook for another 1-2 minutes until well combined. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Place a small spoonful of filling in the center of each dumpling wrapper.
- Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, fold and seal tightly.
- Heat a thin layer of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Place dumplings in the skillet and fry until the bottoms are golden brown.
- Add a splash of water (about 1/4 cup), cover the pan, and steam the dumplings for 3-4 minutes until water evaporates.
- Uncover and continue cooking until the bottoms are crisp again. Serve hot with dipping sauce if desired.
Notes
- Use store-bought dumpling wrappers for convenience.
- Make sure to seal dumplings tightly to prevent filling from leaking.
- Serve with soy sauce, chili oil, or a vinegar-based dipping sauce.
- You can freeze uncooked dumplings for later use.
