Description

These crispy cabbage dumplings are a flavorful and satisfying vegetarian dish with a crunchy pan-fried wrapper and a savory, spiced cabbage filling.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 3 cups cabbage, finely shredded
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 pack of dumpling wrappers
  • Water for sealing dumplings
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Heat sesame oil and vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add minced garlic and ginger; sauté until fragrant.
  3. Add shredded cabbage and green onions; cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and cornstarch; cook for another 1-2 minutes until well combined. Remove from heat and let cool.
  5. Place a small spoonful of filling in the center of each dumpling wrapper.
  6. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, fold and seal tightly.
  7. Heat a thin layer of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  8. Place dumplings in the skillet and fry until the bottoms are golden brown.
  9. Add a splash of water (about 1/4 cup), cover the pan, and steam the dumplings for 3-4 minutes until water evaporates.
  10. Uncover and continue cooking until the bottoms are crisp again. Serve hot with dipping sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Use store-bought dumpling wrappers for convenience.
  • Make sure to seal dumplings tightly to prevent filling from leaking.
  • Serve with soy sauce, chili oil, or a vinegar-based dipping sauce.
  • You can freeze uncooked dumplings for later use.
