Description
Crispy Chinese Honey Garlic Chicken is a delicious and savory dish that combines the perfect blend of sweetness and savory goodness. The crispy, golden-brown chicken is coated in a rich, sticky honey garlic sauce, making it irresistible.
Ingredients
1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 egg
¾ cup cold water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Honey Garlic Sauce:
3 tablespoons honey
3 tablespoons soy sauce
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (slurry)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and baking powder.
 - In a separate bowl, whisk the egg and cold water together.
 - Dip the chicken pieces into the wet mixture, then coat them evenly in the dry flour mixture.
 - Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, fry the chicken in batches for 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.
 - Remove the chicken from the oil and set it aside on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
 - For the honey garlic sauce: In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, garlic, and rice vinegar. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes.
 - Stir in the cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce. Continue to cook for another minute until the sauce reaches your desired consistency.
 - Toss the crispy chicken in the honey garlic sauce, coating each piece evenly.
 - Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes
- Spicy Honey Garlic Chicken: Add red pepper flakes or a bit of sriracha to the honey garlic sauce for a spicy kick.
 - Vegetarian Option: Use crispy tofu or plant-based chicken instead of regular chicken for a vegetarian version.
 - Add Vegetables: Toss in some vegetables like bell peppers, onions, or broccoli for added texture and flavor.
 - Gluten-Free: Substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend and use a gluten-free soy sauce.
 - To keep the chicken crispy, ensure the oil is hot enough before frying and drain the chicken on paper towels to remove excess oil.
