Description

These crispy parmesan onion rings are a delicious twist on a classic snack. Coated in a flavorful Parmesan breadcrumb mixture and deep-fried to golden perfection, they’re the perfect appetizer or side dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 large sweet onion, cut into rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup Italian-style bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice the onion into 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
  2. In a shallow bowl, combine flour, salt, and pepper.
  3. In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
  4. In a third bowl, mix the bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese.
  5. Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, coating well, then into the egg mixture, and finally into the breadcrumb-Parmesan mixture. Press to adhere coating.
  6. Place coated rings on a baking sheet and let them rest for 5–10 minutes to help the coating stick.
  7. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Fry onion rings in batches for 2–3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Use sweet onions like Vidalia for best flavor.
  • Letting the coated rings rest before frying helps prevent the coating from falling off.
  • You can bake these at 425°F for 15–20 minutes as a lighter option.
