Description
These crispy parmesan onion rings are a delicious twist on a classic snack. Coated in a flavorful Parmesan breadcrumb mixture and deep-fried to golden perfection, they’re the perfect appetizer or side dish.
Ingredients
- 1 large sweet onion, cut into rings
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup Italian-style bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Peel and slice the onion into 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
- In a shallow bowl, combine flour, salt, and pepper.
- In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
- In a third bowl, mix the bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese.
- Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, coating well, then into the egg mixture, and finally into the breadcrumb-Parmesan mixture. Press to adhere coating.
- Place coated rings on a baking sheet and let them rest for 5–10 minutes to help the coating stick.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry onion rings in batches for 2–3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- Use sweet onions like Vidalia for best flavor.
- Letting the coated rings rest before frying helps prevent the coating from falling off.
- You can bake these at 425°F for 15–20 minutes as a lighter option.
