Ingredients
- 6 large egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 2 cups strong espresso, cooled
- 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
- 2 packages of ladyfingers (about 24 pieces)
- Cocoa powder for dusting
- Dark chocolate shavings (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until thick and pale. Add mascarpone and blend until smooth.
- In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture.
- Combine the espresso and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish.
- Briefly dip each ladyfinger into the espresso mixture, ensuring they are moist but not soggy.
- Arrange half of the soaked ladyfingers in a single layer in a 9×13 inch dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and top with the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
- Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate shavings.
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the coffee liqueur and use extra espresso.
- Refrigerating overnight enhances the flavor and texture.
- Use high-quality mascarpone and fresh espresso for best results.
