Description

Dirt Cake is a fun, creamy, and delicious dessert with layers of pudding, whipped topping, and crushed cookies resembling dirt. It’s perfect for parties and gatherings, offering a delightful mix of flavors and textures.

Ingredients

1 package (14.1 oz) chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

2 (3.4 oz) packages instant vanilla pudding mix

3 1/2 cups milk

12 oz whipped topping (like Cool Whip)

Instructions

  1. Crush the chocolate sandwich cookies by placing them in a plastic bag and using a rolling pin or pulsing them in a food processor. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth and well-combined.
  3. Add the powdered sugar and continue to beat until the mixture is creamy.
  4. In another bowl, prepare the pudding by whisking together the instant vanilla pudding mix and milk. Allow it to sit for about 2 minutes to thicken.
  5. Fold the whipped topping into the pudding mixture until combined.
  6. Gently fold the pudding mixture into the cream cheese and butter mixture, mixing until smooth.
  7. In a large serving dish or trifle bowl, layer the bottom with half of the crushed cookies. Spread half of the pudding mixture on top, then repeat the layers with the remaining cookies and pudding.
  8. Top with the remaining crushed cookies and chill in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours before serving.

Notes

  1. Add gummy worms for a fun touch.
  2. Use graham crackers or other cookies for the dirt layer if desired.
  3. Switch up the pudding flavor to chocolate or other options.
  4. For a lighter version, use low-fat cream cheese, reduced-fat whipped topping, and sugar-free pudding.
  5. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
