Description
This Dreams Crème Brûlée is a rich and creamy custard dessert topped with a crisp caramelized sugar crust. It’s an elegant and indulgent treat that’s surprisingly simple to make with just a few ingredients.
Ingredients
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 5 egg yolks
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- Extra granulated sugar for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C).
- In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream and vanilla extract over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- In a bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and 1/2 cup sugar until pale and smooth.
- Slowly pour the warm cream into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to avoid scrambling the eggs.
- Strain the mixture through a fine sieve to remove any cooked egg bits.
- Pour the custard into ramekins and place them in a baking dish. Fill the dish with hot water halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the custards are just set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
- Remove ramekins from the water bath and let them cool to room temperature. Then refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Before serving, sprinkle a thin, even layer of sugar over each custard and caramelize it using a kitchen torch or broiler until golden and crisp.
- Allow the sugar to harden for a minute, then serve immediately.
Notes
- Make sure to temper the eggs slowly to avoid scrambling.
- Use a kitchen torch for best caramelization results.
- Chill the custards thoroughly before torching the sugar on top.
