Ingredients
- 1 (9-inch) pie crust, unbaked
- 6 cups apples, peeled and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp recommended)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed (for topping)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (for topping)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie plate and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Toss to coat evenly.
- Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust and spread evenly.
- In another bowl, mix together flour and brown sugar for the topping. Add in cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the apple filling.
- Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Allow the pie to cool before slicing and serving.

- Cover pie loosely with foil if the topping browns too quickly.
