Description

A quick and flavorful Easy Beef Teriyaki made with tender strips of beef simmered in a sweet and savory homemade teriyaki sauce, perfect for serving over rice for a simple weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds flank steak or sirloin steak, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup water, divided
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (for sauce thickening)
  • 2 tablespoons cold water (for slurry)
  • Sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place sliced beef in a bowl and toss with 1/4 cup cornstarch until evenly coated.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add beef in a single layer and cook until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add soy sauce, brown sugar, 3/4 cup water, garlic, ginger, honey, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Stir and bring to a simmer.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together 1 tablespoon cornstarch and 2 tablespoons cold water to create a slurry.
  5. Slowly whisk the slurry into the simmering sauce and cook until thickened.
  6. Return the cooked beef to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Simmer for 2–3 minutes.
  7. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions if desired. Serve hot over cooked rice.

Notes

  • Slice the beef thinly against the grain for maximum tenderness.
  • You can substitute chicken or broccoli for a variation.
  • Serve with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
