Description

A classic Philly Cheesesteak sandwich made with juicy steak, melty cheese, and sautéed onions, all served on a toasted hoagie roll.

Ingredients

1 lb rib-eye steak, thinly sliced

1 medium onion, thinly sliced

2 tablespoons olive oil

4 hoagie rolls

8 oz provolone cheese or American cheese slices

Salt and pepper, to taste

Optional: sautéed bell peppers, mushrooms, or hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 5-7 minutes until they become caramelized and soft. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet and increase the heat to high. Add the thinly sliced rib-eye steak, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the steak is browned and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Once the steak is cooked, return the caramelized onions to the skillet. Stir to combine and heat for another minute.
  4. Split the hoagie rolls and layer each one with the steak and onion mixture. Top with 2 slices of cheese per sandwich and place the sandwich under a broiler for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  1. Cheese Options: Swap provolone or American cheese for mozzarella, cheddar, or even cheese whiz for an authentic Philly flavor.
  2. Add Peppers: Sautéed bell peppers can be added for extra flavor.
  3. Mushrooms: Add sautéed mushrooms for a savory twist.
  4. Storage/Reheating: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days. Reheat in a skillet or wrap in foil and heat in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes.
