Description
These Easy Cream Cheese Wontons are a quick and delicious appetizer made with simple ingredients. They’re crispy, creamy, and perfect for dipping in sweet and sour sauce.
Ingredients
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 20–24 wonton wrappers
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Sweet and sour sauce, for dipping (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, mix together cream cheese, green onions, garlic powder, and salt until smooth.
- Place about 1 tsp of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each wonton wrapper.
- Moisten the edges of the wonton wrapper with water and fold to seal in a triangle or envelope shape, pressing out any air.
- Heat about 2 inches of oil in a heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Fry wontons in batches, about 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve warm with sweet and sour sauce, if desired.
Notes
- Do not overfill the wontons to avoid bursting during frying.
- Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying for best crispiness.
- These can be frozen before frying for make-ahead convenience.
- Use a thermometer to maintain oil temperature for even cooking.
