This Easy Creamy Cheesy Potato Bake is the ultimate comfort food made with layers of thinly sliced potatoes, cream, and cheese, baked until golden and bubbling. It’s the perfect side dish for any meal and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients
- 1.5 kg (3.3 lb) potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 onion, finely sliced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or a mix), divided
- Butter, for greasing the baking dish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F (fan 160°C).
- Grease a 23x33cm (9×13”) baking dish with butter.
- In a bowl, mix cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Top with half the sliced onion and pour over half of the cream mixture. Sprinkle with 1 cup of cheese.
- Repeat with remaining potatoes, onion, cream mixture, and 1 cup of cheese on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before serving to allow it to set.
Notes
- Use starchy potatoes like Russet or Sebago for the best texture.
- For added flavor, add chopped herbs like thyme or rosemary.
