Description

This Easy French Apple Cake is a simple yet elegant dessert featuring tender apples baked into a moist, buttery cake. It’s perfect for fall and showcases the delicate flavors of fresh apples with a hint of vanilla and rum.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup (90g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dark rum
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 tablespoons (113g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 3 apples, peeled, cored, and diced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar until pale and thick.
  4. Whisk in the rum and vanilla extract.
  5. Stir in half of the flour mixture, then half of the melted butter. Repeat with the remaining flour and butter until fully incorporated.
  6. Fold in the diced apples.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Serve plain or with a dusting of powdered sugar or a dollop of whipped cream.

Notes

  • Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for a more complex flavor.
  • This cake keeps well for several days at room temperature.
  • Dark rum adds depth, but you can substitute with apple juice for a non-alcoholic version.
