Description

These Easy Garlic Mashed Potatoes are creamy, buttery, and packed with roasted garlic flavor. They make the perfect comforting side dish for any meal and are incredibly simple to prepare.


Ingredients

  • 3 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 head garlic
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or more as needed)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the top off the garlic head to expose the cloves, drizzle with olive oil, wrap in foil, and roast for 35–40 minutes until soft and golden. Let cool, then squeeze the cloves out.
  2. Meanwhile, place the potatoes in a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender, about 15–20 minutes.
  3. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the roasted garlic cloves, butter, and cream.
  4. Mash until smooth and creamy, adding more cream if needed for desired consistency.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Yukon Gold potatoes give a naturally buttery texture and flavor, but russets can also be used.
  • Adjust the cream and butter amounts to taste for a richer or lighter mash.
  • You can prepare the garlic ahead of time and store it in the fridge for a few days.
  • Use a potato masher for a rustic texture or a hand mixer for extra smooth potatoes.
