Description
These easy homemade biscuits are buttery, fluffy, and golden on the outside with a soft, tender crumb inside. Made from simple pantry staples, they’re quick to prepare and perfect for any meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
- 3/4 cup milk (whole or buttermilk recommended)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and cut it in using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually pour in the milk, stirring just until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
- Fold the dough over itself 2-3 times to create flaky layers, then pat it back down to 1-inch thickness.
- Use a biscuit cutter or glass to cut out biscuits. Place them on a baking sheet, close together for softer sides or spaced apart for crispier edges.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Add shredded cheddar cheese and garlic powder for cheesy biscuits.
- Use buttermilk for a more tender and tangy biscuit.
- Mix in fresh herbs like rosemary or chives for flavor.
- Brush tops with melted butter or honey after baking.
- Use plant-based butter and non-dairy milk for a vegan version.
