Description

These easy homemade biscuits are buttery, fluffy, and golden on the outside with a soft, tender crumb inside. Made from simple pantry staples, they’re quick to prepare and perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
  • 3/4 cup milk (whole or buttermilk recommended)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and cut it in using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Gradually pour in the milk, stirring just until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
  6. Fold the dough over itself 2-3 times to create flaky layers, then pat it back down to 1-inch thickness.
  7. Use a biscuit cutter or glass to cut out biscuits. Place them on a baking sheet, close together for softer sides or spaced apart for crispier edges.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Add shredded cheddar cheese and garlic powder for cheesy biscuits.
  • Use buttermilk for a more tender and tangy biscuit.
  • Mix in fresh herbs like rosemary or chives for flavor.
  • Brush tops with melted butter or honey after baking.
  • Use plant-based butter and non-dairy milk for a vegan version.
