Description

Soft, fluffy homemade dinner rolls with a buttery finish, perfect for any meal. These classic rolls are simple to make and come out warm and golden every time.

Ingredients

  • 1 envelope active dried yeast
  • 1/2 cup water (room temperature warm)
  • 1 cup milk (whole milk or 2% preferred)
  • 4 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Whisk the yeast into the warm water in a small bowl and set aside until bubbles appear on the surface.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, and sugar. Add the activated yeast mixture and mix until combined.
  3. Add the flour and salt to a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook. Pour in the milk mixture and knead on medium-low speed for 5–6 minutes until a smooth dough forms. Add an extra tablespoon of flour if the dough is too sticky.
  4. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let rise at room temperature for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough, divide into 12 equal pieces, and shape into balls. Place in a greased 9×11 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise again for 20–30 minutes until puffy.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Beat the egg and lightly brush the tops of the rolls with egg wash.
  7. Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with melted butter immediately after baking if desired. Remove from pan and serve warm.

Notes

  • Ensure the water is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast.
  • If you do not have a stand mixer, knead the dough by hand for about 8–10 minutes.
  • Do not over-apply egg wash to avoid uneven texture on top.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
  • These rolls are best served fresh and warm.
