Description
Soft, fluffy homemade dinner rolls with a buttery finish, perfect for any meal. These classic rolls are simple to make and come out warm and golden every time.
Ingredients
- 1 envelope active dried yeast
- 1/2 cup water (room temperature warm)
- 1 cup milk (whole milk or 2% preferred)
- 4 tablespoons butter (melted)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tablespoon salt
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- Whisk the yeast into the warm water in a small bowl and set aside until bubbles appear on the surface.
- In another bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, and sugar. Add the activated yeast mixture and mix until combined.
- Add the flour and salt to a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook. Pour in the milk mixture and knead on medium-low speed for 5–6 minutes until a smooth dough forms. Add an extra tablespoon of flour if the dough is too sticky.
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let rise at room temperature for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, divide into 12 equal pieces, and shape into balls. Place in a greased 9×11 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise again for 20–30 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Beat the egg and lightly brush the tops of the rolls with egg wash.
- Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with melted butter immediately after baking if desired. Remove from pan and serve warm.
Notes
- Ensure the water is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast.
- If you do not have a stand mixer, knead the dough by hand for about 8–10 minutes.
- Do not over-apply egg wash to avoid uneven texture on top.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
- These rolls are best served fresh and warm.
