Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon oil (for frying)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (for gravy)
- 1 teaspoon ketchup (for gravy)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into 4 oval-shaped patties.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add beef patties and cook for about 5-6 minutes per side until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add butter, then sauté onions and mushrooms until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Gradually stir in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Return the beef patties to the skillet, cover with the gravy, and simmer for another 10-15 minutes, or until patties are cooked through.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes or over rice.
Notes
- You can use ground turkey or chicken as a leaner option.
- Add more mushrooms if you love a heartier mushroom flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
