Description

This Easy Salisbury Steak is a classic comfort food dish made with seasoned ground beef patties simmered in a rich mushroom and onion gravy. It’s hearty, flavorful, and perfect for a satisfying weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil (for frying)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (for gravy)
  • 1 teaspoon ketchup (for gravy)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into 4 oval-shaped patties.
  2. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add beef patties and cook for about 5-6 minutes per side until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add butter, then sauté onions and mushrooms until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  5. Gradually stir in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Return the beef patties to the skillet, cover with the gravy, and simmer for another 10-15 minutes, or until patties are cooked through.
  7. Serve hot with mashed potatoes or over rice.

Notes

  • You can use ground turkey or chicken as a leaner option.
  • Add more mushrooms if you love a heartier mushroom flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
