Description
These Steamed Carrots are a quick, healthy, and flavorful side dish. Lightly steamed to retain their natural sweetness and bright color, they’re finished with butter, salt, and a touch of fresh herbs for a simple yet elegant accompaniment to any meal.
Ingredients
- 1 pound carrots, peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
- 2 tablespoons butter (or olive oil for dairy-free)
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Peel and slice the carrots into uniform 1/4-inch thick rounds for even cooking.
- Place a steamer basket in a saucepan and add water just below the basket. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Add the sliced carrots to the steamer basket. Cover and steam for 5 to 10 minutes, until fork-tender but still bright in color.
- Transfer carrots to a bowl. Add butter, salt, and pepper. Toss until the butter is melted and carrots are evenly coated.
- Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired. Serve warm.
Notes
- Steaming preserves more nutrients and natural sweetness than boiling.
- For extra flavor, add a drizzle of honey or a squeeze of lemon juice.
- Make it dairy-free or vegan by using olive oil instead of butter.
